Programs
Individual & Family Drug & Alcohol Education
Our substance abuse education program
is offered for youths, adults, and their families
who are experiencing problems with ATODs (Alcohol,
Tobacco, and/or Other Drugs). The program consists
of ten sessions, meeting once a week. The sessions
are from 7:00 to 8:30pm. Our Monday night family
group is for children, adolescents, and individuals
who attend with family members. Our Tuesday night
group is for adults only, individuals on Diversion
or Probation as well as adults from other referral
sources. We use videos, role play, work sheets,
skits, and many other experiential activities.
To enroll in the program, an intake is required. At the intake, the fee is set, forms are
completed, and an
assessment is given. We encourage family participation, whether it is one of the adults or one of the
children in the family who is referred here. The fee is on a sliding scale based on the annual income of the
family and is only for the person referred. We will send an intake and closure report to the referral source as well as any other pertinent information required.
Our referrals come from many sources in the local and
surrounding counties such as: Adult and Teen Courts, Adult and Juvenile Probation Departments, Schools, CPS Agencies, EAPs,
Treatment and other Health Providers,
and a few others, as well as Self Referrals. Our sessions include topics
such as: Basic Drug Information, Risk & Protective factors, Stages to Addiction, Family Roles, Shame & Addiction, Stress
Management, Anger Management, Communication, Media Influence, Decision Making, and others.

Project RESPECT Project RESPECT (Reducing Early Sex and Pregnancy by Educating
Children and Teens) is an abstinence-based teen pregnancy prevention program that works to encourage youth to take steps to build their self-esteem, identify their own values, respect
themselves and others, and to understand how drugs and alcohol play a part in risk-taking behavior. The program also encourages youth to have open communication with their parents, guardians
and trusted adults to protect them from taking unhealthy risks.
Project RESPECT includes a parent education
component from the
Search Institute entitled “Living With 10 to 15 Year Olds”. This curriculum can be presented to parents, professionals and youth workers in addition to the Project
RESPECT program or separately.

information and to schedule Project RESPECT classes and programs, please contact Susan Dunker, M.Ed., CPP, at

The Journey
Our Place,
recognizing the need for chemical dependency
treatment options for youth in Southern Indiana is
now offering The Journey Program, an intensive
outpatient program for adolescents. This treatment
program incorporates The Matrix Model, which
is recognized by the Substance Abuse and Mental
Health Services Administration as an evidence-based
intensive outpatient program. The Journey program
is for chemically dependent adolescents, ages 12 to
18, and their families. The structured
program lasts for 16 weeks and meets three days a
week. An explicit framework has been created by
this program through regularly scheduled groups that
address five core clinical areas:
individual/conjoint sessions, early recovery,
relapse prevention, family education, and social
support. This program is certified by the Indiana
Division of Mental Health and Addictions.
Fees for the
program are based on a sliding scale thanks to
support from the surrounding local communities,
including Horseshoe Foundation of Floyd County, Floyd
County Alcohol Tobacco and Other Drug Abuse Task
Force, Clark County Youth Coalition, Community
Foundation of Southern Indiana and Harrison County
Community Foundation.
The staff involved
in The Journey program are certified addiction and
prevention professionals and are experienced working
with adolescents and families. This program
recognizes the challenges that youth experience in
returning to a drug-free life and the challenge of
staying drug-free. It is a journey with many
obstacles but also many rewards.
Addiction should
never be taken lightly. We at Our Place understand
this is a devastating disease that will not only
destroy the emotional and physical life of the
individual, but will seriously impact the family as
well. We also understand that the family is a unit
and must be treated together for the greatest chance
for recovery for all involved. Referrals are
encouraged from schools, juvenile justice system,
counseling/treatment agencies, clergy and families.
